Australia and New Zealand are far from the US, so the right plan matters more than almost anywhere. Distances are large, internal flights are common and the seasons are reversed.

You will find city itineraries for Sydney and Melbourne, an east coast route and a South Island road trip with Queenstown as the base.

Plan at least ten days for either country, and more if you want both. Sydney and Melbourne are one-hour flights apart, while New Zealand is best seen by campervan or rental car.

Remember the seasons are reversed: December to February is summer, and the shoulder months of March and November give the best balance.
