Asia and the Pacific reward planning more than almost any other region: long flights, big time differences and seasons that change from one country to the next. These guides help you choose the right season, the right base and a pace you can enjoy after the flight.

Whether you want Tokyo and Kyoto, a Bali beach week or an Australian road trip, each itinerary lists where to stay, how to get around and what a realistic budget looks like.

Explore Asia-Pacific by region

Japan

Japan works for first-timers once you understand the rail network and how to split time between Tokyo and Kyoto. Our guides cover Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and a 10-day route that links them, with advice on rail passes and seasons.

Korea, Hong Kong & Taiwan

Seoul, Hong Kong and Taipei are compact, fast and excellent for food. Each is a strong four- or five-day city break or an add-on to a longer Asia trip.

Southeast Asia

Bangkok, Phuket, Bali, Singapore, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Kuala Lumpur offer huge range for the money. We help you decide how much to fit in and when the monsoon matters.

Australia & New Zealand

Distances are large, seasons are reversed and internal flights are normal. We cover Sydney, Melbourne, the east coast and a South Island road trip based around Queenstown.

Pacific & Indian Ocean Islands

Fiji, the Maldives and Bora Bora are the destinations people save for, and the easiest to book badly. We explain resort types, transfers and realistic budgets.

How to use this section

Because flights are long, give each stop at least three nights and add a buffer day at the start of the trip. If this is your first Asia trip, the Tokyo itinerary is the easiest place to begin.
